TIP 1. Plan on the unexpected

The dove hunting in Argentina is more than high volume doves (yes, Mr. P G in Texas - put the hot shotgun down and eat your fine Argentina meal and enjoy a glass of Malbac - the doves don't stop flying...)

The Los Gauchos Argentina dove hunting trip is about the experience. Argentina is a beautiful country and the culture, food, wine, environment, and doves are benefits but take it all in --the hosts, guides, cooks, bird boys, and office staff all work together to show you the country of Argentina and why it is one of the most popular tourist spots and why wingshooting is so good in Cordoba.

The doves in Argentina are not migratory birds, so there is no season and they do damage to the crops in Argentina. Argentina is a large country with lots of land dedicated to sunflower, sorghum, and rye. These are feasting grounds for doves and the crops are destroyed by doves each year. So, a welcome sport and place for wingshooters is Cordoba and other fields in Uruguay where dove roosts are the majority and fly each and every day of the year. Dove hunting in Argentina a no limit, no season shooting sport and Los Gauchos has 4 lodges with affordable rates and outstanding dove hunting and service at all of the dove hunting lodges affiliated with Los Gauchos.

The Cordoba dove is the Zenaida Auriculata (golden eared dove). Palomas is the Spanish word for dove and what you will hear from South Americans call them.

Tip 2: Bring Relief for the shooting hand

Practice your shooting skills before heading down to Argentina for dove hunting. A good way to practice is to practice by shooting sporting clays set up for dove hunting. Contact your local gun club or ask fellow hunters, most will have guys that have been to Argentina for dove hunting and will not only help with your shooting and what to expect but also get the excitement of dove hunting in Argentina so that you are ready to be on the plane tonight and be in the field tomorrow afternoon! Dove hunting in Argentina is enjoyed due to the absolute volume of birds. Do not be disturbed if you haven't been able to get your shooting skills up to par before you travel to Argentina. With the high volume dove hunting, you will not miss or have a bad day in Cordoba.

The best dove hunting or shooting tip is to keep your cheek down on the stock. Find the best lead method that works for you such as swing through lead, sustained lead, or spot lead. Wear comfortable shoes and have good footing since you will be shooting a lot and the birds can be overwhelming in Cordoba - it is amazing the number of doves. Good footwork for shooting doves it to take a half-step before swinging on the dove, setting your foot on the line where you plan to take your shot. Then shoot ! Shoot ! Enjoy your dove hunting in Argentina - very hard not to.

Tip 3: Plan on Sunny Days

No matter which month you plan for dove hunting in Argentina, plan on sun. Come prepared with sunscreen, good sunglasses, and a hat. Los Gauchos has some hats for sale - but we know our wingshooters have some favorite caps or maybe a lucky hunting hat. You are welcome to view and purchase our Los Gauchos cap and it not only protects you from sunburn, but it also is a good mark for our guide and hosts that meet you in the airport.

TIP 4: YOUR DOVE HUNTING SHOTGUN

Bring some sort of sling or pouch for your gun and shotgun shells. We have found that shoguns get heavier by the end of the day and the walk back to the truck(s) or vans can be a killer on your shooting shoulder. Comfort is the way to go when you are dove hunting in Argentina.

TIP 5: Water or Aqua and Lots!

Water is key to dove hunting safely and effectively no matter where you are. Make sure the guides and host have plenty of water and keep it near by. Again, the afternoons can get warm and sunny, and while the excitement of the high number of doves and shooting you will do can get ahead of you, stay hydrated and keep the bottled water close by. All of Los Gauchos lodges maintain bottled water. So, drink up and keep shooting - that is what makes Argentina dove hunting so great. The vast number of shooting opportunities, the guides and host who provide top service and of course the meals that will be served after your successful day in the field. Have fun dove hunting in Argentina but Los Gauchos emphasizes safety in the field.

Argentina uses 220 volts AC (50 Hz) - most computers and blackberrys do not require a converter - but check with your device manufacturer and any drugstore, general goods store will have travel converters.
